System requirements

Operating System: FluencyCoach is designed for Windows 98, 2000 and Windows XP. It may not work on Windows NT or Vista.

Additional Software: Microsoft's DirectX version 8 or above needs to be installed on your computer. Most newer Windows PCs already have the most recent DirectX version installed. If yours does not, you can download free copy of DirectX here.

Hardware: A sound card supporting full-duplex mode is required. Most modern sound cards support this mode and most likely yours does too. If not, you can obtain updated drivers from manufacturer or upgrade your sound card.

Peripherals: You will need headphones and a microphone. A headset combining microphone and stereo headphones would be your best option. Inexpensive, quality headsets are available at Amazon.com. We recommend the following models:

Installation

Once installation is complete, connect your headset and launch FluencyCoach. The first time you run the program, you will be presented with a Registration window.

For information about therapeutical uses of FluencyCoach for independent at home treatment of stuttering, or as an essential aid to be used in conjunction with any of the prominent speech therapy protocols, consult Therapy guide section of the website.

Troubleshooting

If you start the application and get the error message “Could Not Initialize DirectX” then you will have to install the DirectX component on your computer. You may download DirectX component from Microsoft by opening the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/ . Follow the instructions to download and install the latest version of the DirectX. You will have to restart the computer after you installed the DirectX.

If you get the error message “Could Not Create Record Buffer”, you most probably have the sound card that does not support full-duplex mode. If your sound card does not support full-duplex mode you can either try to find updated drivers from the sound card manufacturer or upgrade your sound card. FluencyCoach requires the full-duplex enabled sound card.

If no error messages are displayed but you still cannot hear your voice or you hear your voice without any delay or pitch shift then you will have to adjust your sound system settings.

If problems persist, please contact us using the form below. Please tell us about your system's settings - what platform your PC is running, whether you have updated your DirectX installation and what peripherals you are using.
